Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Helping you regain control of your feelings to live a life worth living
What is DBT?
DBT is an evidence-based therapy that helps people who struggle with overwhelming emotions, impulsive behaviours, or difficulties in relationships.
It combines cognitive behavioural techniques with mindfulness, teaching practical skills that make everyday life more manageable.
DBT focuses on four key skill sets:
- Mindfulness – staying present and centred
- Distress Tolerance – coping with crisis without making things worse
- Emotion Regulation – managing emotions effectively
- Interpersonal Effectiveness – building healthier relationships
What Can DBT Help With?
- Intense emotions such as anger, anxiety, or low mood
- Inattention and impulsivity
- Eating problems, alcohol or substance misuse, self-harm, or avoidance
- Relationship difficulties, including problems with social interaction and setting boundaries
Note: We are unable to provide DBT for people with significant risk behaviours (e.g. frequent self-harm or suicide attempts). If this applies to you, we can help signpost you to appropriate services.
